Trumpeter Swans
Trumpeter Swans are my favorite of all the swans I raise. They are very curious and are a lot of fun. The Cobb’s average weight is 27 pounds and the Pen is about 21 pounds. A Trumpeter Swan lays 4 to 8 eggs in a nest made from grasses and other aquatic plants. The Trumpeter Swan likes to have water all around their nest but will do without if need be. The female incubates the eggs alone in about 35 to 37 days.
We have two unrelated pairs of Trumpeter Swans. |
Mute Swans
Mute Swans are very common in private ponds and zoos. The Cobb’s average weight is 27 pounds and the Pen is about 20 pounds. A Mute Swan lays 4 to 8 greenish blue eggs in a huge nest that consists of grass, leaves, roots and sticks. Both the male and female gather materials for the nest. The female incubates the eggs in about 35 to 36 days.

Whooper Swans
The average weight for a Cobb is 24 pounds and the Pen is around 18 pounds. A Whooper Swan lays 4 to 6 white eggs in a bulky nest of mosses, grasses, aquatic grasses and some mud. They may use the same nest year after year and keep building it up each year. The female incubates the eggs alone in about 31 to 40 days (31 to 32 is probably typical).
We have three unrelated pairs of Whooper Swans.

Black Australian Swans
The average weight for a Cobb is 12 pounds and the Pen is around 9 pounds. A Black Australian Swan lays 4 to 10 (average 5-6) pale green eggs in a bulky arrangement of twigs, rushes and waterweed. The female mainly incubates the eggs, sometimes shared with the male in about 35 to 40 days.
